WHITE WATER RAFTING
Arguably the wildest white water in the world, rafting on the Zambezi River is an adrenaline rush not to be missed on your action-packed Victoria Falls holiday.
Your white water rafting trip kicks off as you are collected from your Victoria Falls accommodation. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in the morning at check-in, after which you are taken to the Gorge for a safety briefing before the days’ activity commences.
The Zambezi River is renowned for its extremely high volume and steep gradient. The rapids on the Zambezi River are officially defined as ‘Grade 5’ by the British Canoe Union (Grade 6 being commercially un-runable). You should be reasonably fit for this activity, as there is a fairly steep walk into and out of the Batoka Gorge as well as the white water rafting activity itself. A light lunch is served in the gorge between rapids.
Low white water rafting
Low white water rafting runs from about mid July to the end of January. The best months are usually August and September.
High white water rafting
High white water rafting runs from approximately the end of January to mid July. If the water is too high, the river is closed for safety reasons - this usually happens between April and May but can last as long as up to July.
Please note: A full day white water rafting trip includes rapids 11 - 25: Pick up is at 08h30 getting back at about 14h00 (high water) and 17h00 (low water). The ‘full day’ can end sooner than 14h00 hrs depending on how fast the water is running at the time.
Due to the nature of this activity, you should be warned to leave your valuables and personal effects safely locked up at your hotel.
