Day 1: Durban

Fly into Durban International Airport where your Gour B rental car awaits you. From here it is a short drive to your hotel on the Durban beachfront for one night in the city.

Durban is a heady melting pot of culture and diversity and is filled with numerous activities for the holidaymaker. Rickshaw rides, markets, exotic foods and tastes give way to golden beaches warm seas and with its tropical climate swimming is possible all year round. Visit u-Shaka Marine World, a 16 hectre freshwater and seawater theme park if you are looking for a world class marinelife experience.

Day 2 - 4: The Battlefields and Majestic Drakensberg

Drive from Durban to the lower regions of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains to the Battlefields region - an area that is steeped in history.

With a car at your disposal this area is full of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy, from hiking and nature trails, to historical and cultural attractions.

Be sure not to miss the enthralling re-enactments of the battles that shaped the face of South Africa on a Rouke Drift Tour, or to explore incredible terrain on horseback, go on long hikes or just soak in the beauty and ancient history that surrounds you.

The Drakensberg Mountains are South Africa’s largest mountain range and a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Ice cold waterfalls and rivers are shaded by ancient ferns and yellowwood trees while secret caves and cliff faces hide some of the earliest cave art ever found. This realm of the eagles is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise internationally recognized for its beauty.

Day 4 - 6: Big 5 Safari

Come face to face with the Big Five in one of KZN’s world class game reserves. Lush vegetation gives way to rolling green hills and plains teeming with game.

A typical day on safari starts off with an early game drive where skilled rangers and open 4x4 safari vehicles will soon have you within an arms length of Africa’s wildest creatures.

Afterwards it’s back to the lodge where a sumptuous breakfast awaits you and then the day is yours until lunch and the late afternoon game drive and the chance to see some of the more nocturnal animals. 

Sundowners in the open bush will be remembered for years to come and back at the lodge for dinner exciting tales of the days adventures are swapped over a glass of fine South African wine and excellent meals.

Day 6 - 9: Turtles, Dolphins and the Beach

After your Big Five encounter head back to the coast for some rest and relaxation at the beach.

Known as the dolphin coast the area is lined with sugar cane plantations and the warm seas hide the southernmost coral reefs in the world.

Excellent diving and snorkelling with exciting encounters with huge shoals of fish, dolphins and whales. The area is complemented with a host of marine and wetland reserves - most notably St Lucia, a World Heritage site - and the beaches in the area are particularly suited to families with safe rock pools to amuse the youngsters.

Both lodges are situated metres inland from the warm Indian Ocean and the most incredible beaches.

When your days of fun in the sun are up you’ll take a 4.5 hour scenic drive back to the airport back to the airport to drop of your rental car and end your superb Best of Kwa-Zulu Natal tour.
