This tour is a popular choice for families looking to the diversity of the Cape and the Garden Route, with many activities  suitable for children. This tour does not include malaria areas.


Day 1 - 4: Cape Town and Surrounds

Fly into Cape Town where you will pick up your rental car and drive to a hotel of your choice, perfectly situated for day excursions to nearby attractions and activities.

Cape Town is one of the world’s most beautiful cities and yours to explore for the next 4 days. Dominated by Table Mountain it is surrounded by the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean and ringed with fine white sandy beaches.

Suitable activities for famililies:

  • Take a cable care ride up Table Mountain
  • Build sand castles on one of Cape Towns nearby beaches.
  • Visit the Two Oceans Aquarium, Robben Island, the Kirstenbosch Botantical Gardens
  • See baboons at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
  • Take an outing to Boulders Beach to visit the resident penguin colony
  • Hunt for gem stones at the Scratch Patch

Apart from its outdoor charms Cape Town entices visitors into its bosom with a wide choice of excellent restaurants, galleries and shopping malls such as the V&A Waterfront – a working harbour filled with a wonderful mix of shops, restaurants and exciting activities for all ages.

Day 5: Hermanus

After a relatively short and beautiful coastal drive from Cape Town you will arrive in Hermanus – the whale watching capital of the world.

During breeding season whales come in close to the shore to breed and nurture their young to provide you with unmatched views of these goliaths of the deep. (The season is from June to November)

Activities suitable for families:

  • Boat trips into Walker Bay
  • Nature walks along the cliff paths
  • Tanning and playing on the beach
  • Laxy lunches in the old harbour
  • Shark cage diving (not suitable for all)

Day 6: Route 62 to Oudtshoorn

From Hermanus you will take a drive along the famous Route 62 – the most scenic drive in South Africa so remember to keep those camera batteries charged – until you reach Oudtshoorn.This rugged mountainous landscape is the Ostrich capital of the world so expect to visit one of the many ostrich farms


Activities suitable for families:

  • Exploring the Cango Caves and their awesome underground formations
  • Viewing Ostrich races and seeing the size of the Ostrich eggs
  • Visiting the Crocodile Farm and its toothy inhabitants.

Day 6 -9: Knysna

Knysna situated in an area of dense forests, unique flora, wide bays, rocky sea cliffs and numerous rivers all set against a dramatic mountain backdrop. The town itself is a postcard perfect, vibrant seaside village. Fresh oysters and champagne make for lazy days at the picturesque waterfront and the lagoon can be explored via water taxi’s and sunset cruises.

Activities suitable for families:

  • Take a trip to Featherbed bay where on the opposite side of the lagoon right near the Knysna heads
  • Partake in watersport activities such as scuba diving, surfing and dolphin watching tours.
  • Hike amoungst the  indigenous Knysna forest where you will be enveloped in an ancient silence.
  • Take a canopy tree top tour in the Knysna forest
  • Bungee jump the worlds highest bridge
