The Zambezi is wide here and dotted with islands, making it perfect for the huge herds of elephant and buffalo which call this area home. It’s also perfect for game-viewing and exciting encounters with these magnificent animals.
The Lower Zambezi National Park is also home to Africa’s apex predators – lion, leopard and wild dog- and more than 500 species of bird. The combination of the river and the park’s rich and diverse eco-systems make the Lower Zambezi a birdwatcher’s paradise. Pel’s fishing owl is a regular sighting, and fish eagles are two-a-penny. Look out for pennant-winged nightjars, woolly-necked storks and the impressive goliath heron.
