More than half a century ago, Baron Peter Behr discovered a coastal paradise of exquisite beauty near Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route in South Africa. The Baron purchased an Estate near Nature’s Valley, which he named Kurland after the Baltic province where he was born. In 2000, his grandson Peter, and his wife Dianne, transformed the family homestead into a Luxury Boutique Hotel. Retaining its age-old reputation for great hospitality amidst spectacular natural beauty, Kurland soon received accolades. The character of Kurland ensures that families are happy and relaxed, being designed with excellent facilities for children of all ages. Kurland is a family paradise. Accommodation: 

Kurland has just 12 tastefully decorated and spacious suites. For the comfort of guests all suites have oversized beds, exquisite linens, huge en suite bathrooms, a lounge area and terrace, and are equipped with modern facilities such as telephones, satellite television, safes, mini bars, heated towel rails and under floor heating. The superior suites all have private pools, which enjoy magnificent views of the estate, whilst the luxury suites have secluded courtyards and water features. Children of all ages are welcome at Kurland, which boasts extensive play areas and a dedicated children’s dining conservatory. The Luxury and Superior suites all have private loft rooms that are specially furnished for children with their own en suite bathrooms.

Dining:

The standard of Kurland cuisine is an outstanding example of the very best of South African food and wine. Dining in the candlelit dining room is a memorable experience. Wherever the mood takes you; to The Library, The Verandah, The Pool, The Courtyard, your private terrace, The Chef’s Table, or the Rose Gardens, an elegant setting will be arranged either for more intimate meals or for group celebrations. Weather permitting, The Courtyard offers a distinctly romantic Mediterranean ambience, with its picturesque fountain and candelabra. Fine cuisine can be enjoyed in a variety of locations throughout Kurland’s beautiful Estate, whilst the greater Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve offers equestrian activities, forest walks, beaches, water sports, and extreme activities such as bungy jumping or sky diving and all in a tranquil and safe environment.
