General Information:
The reserve is approx 60,000 hectares in size & is malaria free. Ivory Tree is set in the basin of an ancient amphitheatre. The park is home to healthy populations of lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant and buffalo - Africa's "Big Five". Ivory Tree Game Lodge is situated in the north eastern region of the Pilanesberg National Park, the closest point of entry is through Bakgatla Gate. Nestled in the basin of an ancient amphitheatre divided by riverine woodlands and elephant trails lies an exclusive lodge development site. The central facility includes a stunning feature pool, bar, conference room, dinning room, boma, reception and curio shop.
Accommodation:
Decorated in a range of earthy tones ranging from terra cottas to deep blues, the rooms have been carefully co-ordinated to ensure comfortable seating both indoors and out. Standard Suites - The standard configuration includes two twin beds and in a limited number of rooms it is possible for to offer a king size bed.
It is also possible to introduce a third bed into the room in the event that a child / children wish to share with parents. It is not possible to add a fourth bed. Ivory Tree Game Lodge boasts 57 suites. Each features the following;
- Air conditioners which provide heating and cooling.
- En-suite bathroom and outside shower.
- Covered patio.
- Tea and coffee making facilities.
- Mini bar fridge.
Dining:
Ivory Tree Game Lodge has recently completed an extreme makeover, the upgrades include a compete refit of the public areas and the inclusion of a new multifunctional venue which has been created adjacent to the existing and bar and lounge. The new facility will be used as the high tea station during the day and will offer specialist coffees in the evenings. Fine dining is also be to enjoyed in this new area.
Activities:
Quad Biking: Come experience the reel thing and encounter natural obstacles on our quad trail. No experience is needed; our guides will take you through proper instruction to safely enjoy this amazing activity. It's an hour ride into the bush and down to the community where you will meet the villages and show you the community project sponsored by the lodge. Archery: Archery is one of the ancient activities that we offer using modern day's equipment. We use the modern re-curve bows and it is called this because of its curved shape. The guide will safely brief you on how to use the equipment and tell you briefly a story about the bushman hunters. Please give yourself an opportunity to learn the technique of this challenging art form. Air Gun: Experience the satisfaction of shooting at a very small target, by using very small bullets called pallets. It is an extremely enjoyable activity to do with lots of fun and laughter. The guide will take you through a proper safety instruction on how to use the equipment. Tribal Show: An overwhelming Tswana and Zulu dancing experience which will take you through an African ritual. Singing to us is the food of life that heals the human soul. Dancing is an expression of our daily routines that we all have adopted into our culture. Dance invigorates and prepares the warriors for battles, and above all dance bridges the gap between the ancient and the modern. It keeps the stories of the legends alive for the generations yet to come. The storyteller will introduce the SANGOMA, it's a name given to someone in contact with ancestral spirits or a witch doctor. After the Sangoma the stick fighters will jump in, stick fighting provided an opportunity for men to build courage and skills, to distinguish themselves as proficient warriors, and to earn respect in the community. The storyteller will renter the stage to introduce the gumboots dancers and teller a brief history about the origin of gumboots dancing, where the workers were forbidden to speak, and as a result created a means of communication, essentially their own unique form of mores code, by slapping their gumboots and stamping their feet.
