Hippo Hollow Country Estate is a thatched lodge perched on the banks of the Sabi River just outside the town of Hazyview, just outside the Kruger National Park. Nestled amongst lush indigenous gardens, Hippo Hollow Country Estate offers a relaxing and tranquil sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Boasting an ‘Out of Africa’ atmosphere, Hippo Hollow Country Estate is a perfect retreat for honeymooners, families and discerning travellers alike. Situated in South Africa’s scenic Lowveld region and just a short drive from the Kruger National Park, Hippo Hollow provides an ideal base from which to explore the reserves and sights of Mpumalanga, including the quaint town of Pilgrim’s Rest, the magnificent geological features at Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels and the Blyde River Canyon as well as the astounding view from God’s Window .

Set in a riverine environment, nature lovers will be delighted by the sight of Kingfisher and other beautiful water birds at Hippo Hollow Country Estate. Hippos may also be spotted grazing the lawn from the comfort of your suite.

Rooms

Hippo Hollow Country Estate comprises 37 thatched semi self-catering chalets and 54 hotel rooms. All the rooms are fitted with twin-beds, a safe, tea and coffee making facilities and fans.

The room types are:

River chalets: Offering additional twin-beds in the loft, these spacious chalets are ideal for families. River chalets boast a small kitchenette with semi-self catering facilities, heaters, double showers, and spectacular views overlooking the Sabi River that can be enjoyed from the private deck.

Garden chalets: These chalets are fitted with heaters, double showers, a kitchenette with semi self-catering facilities and a veranda overlooking lush gardens.

Hotel rooms: These rooms offer satellite television, air-conditioning and heating, and some rooms have balconies and verandas overlooking the picturesque gardens. Inter-leading rooms are also available.

Dining

Hippo Hollow Country Estate offers a variety of dining experiences. Delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served in the Hippo Hollow Restaurant, offering fresh country fare and exotic African meats which are accompanied by fine South African wines from the lodge’s wine cellar.

Dine under the African sky and indulge in a cultural evening of food and song presented by locals at the Shangaan River Club. End the day with refreshing cocktails at the Ladies Bar, offering an extensive international cocktail menu.
