knysna & plettenberg bay: the heart of the garden route
Oyster lovers flock to Knysna on the Garden Route for the annual oyster festival and a trip through the famous Knysna Heads, the fabled nemesis to 18th century seafarers trying to find a sheltered berth in the magnificent Knysna Lagoon. Houseboats, ferry trips to Featherbed Bay and champagne and oyster sundowners at the waters edge are the name of the day in Knysna. The 5-star Kanonkop House has elevated views over the Knysna lagoon whilst the 4-star Belvidere Manor is a large expansive property on the Featherbed Bay waters edge. The Protea Knysna Quays is our value orientated accommodation in the Knysna waterfront area.
Plettenberg Bay's warm seas and pristine white beaches make it the perfect seaside resort. During the winter months whale watching is excellent, and in summer, between bouts of surfing, swimming and long walks on the beach or in the surrounding forests, take a boat trip out to Robberg Island to see the crazy cliff climbing seals and dolphins playing in the waves. The Plettenberg Hotel has enviable views of the bay and is a stones throw from the main street, whilst Bay Lodge is our boutique hotel option and Periwinkle Lodge caters for the budget conscious traveller.
There are a number of phenomenal romantic and honeymoon escapes such as Plettenberg Park and Tsala Treetops Lodge.
Most of our Garden Route tours will visit the seaside town Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, and can also be tailor-made to incorporate a golf escape at Fancourt Country Club.
