Bloemfontein is the judicial capital of South Africa and the seat of the Court of Appeals. It is the most centrally situated city in South Africa, accessible by car within 12 hours from anywhere in the country. Fondly known as the 'City of Roses’, Bloemfontein actually means ‘fountain of flowers’ and this beautiful, colourful city accordingly hosts an annual rose show in October.
Originally established around a natural fountain, Bloemfontein has always been a popular stop over for travellers through the decades and today the town is a focal point for most of the surface transport systems in the country. Approximately a dozen roads lead away from the city in all directions,making this a perfect place from which to explore any corner of South Africa. Bloemfontein has many hotels, parks, shopping malls and entertainment centres and is also home to many excellent schools, universities and colleges.
