Plunging down from a height of 65 metres the Augrabies Falls are one of the 6th largest waterfalls in the world. Augrabies FallsWith vast quanitities of turbulent water plunging down from a height of 65 metres, the Augrabies Falls forms the 6th largest waterfall in the world. They are located in the Augrabies National Park in the hot dry north of South Africa and are a part of the life-giving Orange River.
Overnight chalets near the main falls provide accommodation in the national park with strategic viewpoints providing dramatic photo opportunities of the different waterfalls. |

This usually placid river churns through a narrow gorge just above the falls before cascading into a pool 92 metres across and 130 metres deep. Legend has it that this frothing cauldron of black water guards a fortune in alluvial diamonds. Below the falls the mighty river has carved a ravine through solid granite where it drops a further 300 metres over 9 kilometres in a series of smaller waterfalls and raging rapids.
