NAMIBIA

Etosha Pan

Etosha Pan is one of the country's most prominent tourist destinations and, with the arrival of heavy rains, offers an annual spectacle that epitomises the stark contrast that is Namibia.
"The Great White Place" - Etosha Pan - a vast white, desolate, saline scar that remains as a reminder of the Kunene River's original course before it was changed 2-million years ago, is transformed into a kaleidoscope of pink, white and yellow as the rains fill the shallow lagoon and flamingos, pelicans and a host of waders make it their home for the short time before it dries up again.

The Etosha National Park -

The Etosha National Park is one of the areas greatest attractions, offering superlative safari opportunities this Etosha game reserve has earned international acclaim. Perennial springs around the edges of the Etosha Pan attract 114 species of mammals and 340 bird species, which reside in the surrounding thorn savannah and bushveld.

One of the best ways to view game in the Etosha National Park is to sit quietly at one of the waterholes and wait for them to come to you. One such waterhole at Okaukuejo is particularly renowned for its elephant and black rhino activity. Other species you're likely to encounter are zebra, gemsbok (oryx), giraffe, herds of hundreds of springbok, or perhaps one of the estimated 250 lions that patrol territorial areas of the 22,000 square kilometers that make up Etosha National Park. For the persistent, patient or just plain lucky, the elusive leopard may even feature on your Etosha National Park safari tick list.
