General Information

Desert Rhino Camp is a luxury tented mobile camp situated in the private Palmwag Concession. Boasting a tranquil and peaceful setting, Desert Rhino Camp offers guests a traditional and exclusive safari experience in a remote location.

Nestled amongst rocky, rolling hills with scattered euphorbia, ancient welwitschia plants, scrubby vegetation and isolated clumps of trees, Desert Rhino Camp’s minimalist beauty blends in perfectly with the reserve’s rugged semi-desert landscape.

Set in an area with the largest free roaming black rhino population in Africa, Desert Rhino Camp also offers spectacular viewing opportunities of elephant, Hartman’s mountain zebra, lion, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, brown and spotted hyena, oryx, springbok and kudu.

Rooms

Desert Rhino Camp offers accommodation in eight spacious walk-in Meru tents. Raised on wooden decks, the tents offer an en-suite bathroom with hand basin, flush toilet and shower, comfy beds with crisp, white linen, dark wood bedside tables with wicker reading lamps and a veranda where you can relax and take in the magnificent vistas of the surrounding desert. Each tent is equipped with an electronic combination safe, a loud 'hooter' for emergencies, an insect spray and mosquito repellent and complimentary shampoo, soap, tissues and towels.

Dining

Start your day with a buffet breakfast of cereals, yoghurt and bread, or enjoy a sumptuous cooked breakfast. For lunch, go on a bush picnic and munch on a selection of dishes including breaded chicken pieces, quiche, salads and pasta. Evening meals are a sociable affair and is served in the camp’s open-sided dining area. Dinner is a three-course meal, consisting of delicious soups, mouth-watering main-courses and a range of delectable desserts.

Activities

Guests at Desert Rhino Camp can track game on morning and night game drives and learn about the fauna and flora of the area with nature drives and walks. Explore the area surrounding the camp by going on a full day outing (with a picnic lunch) on the concession and enjoy the prolific and diverse bird life with spectacular opportunities for bird watching.
