De Hoop Nature Reserve is set along a beautiful coastline with stunning bays, offering some of the best opportunities for whale-watching. Situated on the scenic Garden Route, De Hoop Nature Reserve is an ideal family destination.
A world heritage site, De Hoop Nature Reserve falls within the threatened Cape Floral Kingdom - the smallest plant kingdom in the world. De Hoop Nature Reserve boasts a spectacular landscape with indigenous fauna and flora, and provides honeymooners with the perfect retreat in magical surroundings.
The ocean at De Hoop Nature Reserve encompasses the breeding grounds of the southern right whale, and many species of fish, seals and dolphins frequent the waters. The reserve also offers spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities including the rare bontebok, Cape Mountain zebra, eland, baboon and the occasional leopard. Avid bird watchers will be delighted with over 260 species in the reserve.
Rooms
The Opstal Manor House is the perfect base from which to explore the De Hoop Nature Reserve. A luxurious original home, Manor House has been beautifully restored to its former glory. Comprising 3 en-suite bedrooms, Manor House accommodates six people. Adjacent to the house are the luxury Shearing Studio and the Stable Suite, which both offer one en-suite bedroom.
Dining
Indulge in delicious local fare at the Fig Tree Restaurant which can be found in the hub of the reserve. The restaurant is open for breakfast, teas, snacks, light lunch and dinner. Sumptuous meals are prepared with locally sourced produce and can be enjoyed al fresco. Picnic baskets are available for overnight guests and ready-made meals can be ordered and delivered to the Opstal Manor House.
Activities
Guests can enjoy a variety of activities at De Hoop Nature Reserve including, whale-watching (July – November), game drives, beach walks, rock pool low-tide walks, birding, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, snorkelling, horse riding, tennis, guided bird and fynbos walk, interpretive marine walk and star gazing.
