The flood waters from the Okavango originate from the Kavango River in the north, and dry up as the water moves south. The result is that camps located in the permanent waterways offer only water-based activities, while those in the south tend to offer only land-based activities, and those centrally located provide a combination of both land and water-based activities.

Water flow is seasonal, so activities may vary according to the season of travel.

• Water based lodge activities: Mokoro rides, boat excursions, game walks and possible fishing activities are available all year round.
• Land based lodge activities: Day and night game drive and game walks. Generally, the gameviewing is better on the land based camps than the purely water based camps, as you are able to get up amongst the large animal herds on a gamedrive where you are more restricted when only on foot.

Luggage restrictions when travelling by light aircraft to your Botswana safari lodge

For Botswana safari lodges that are only accessed by light aircraft (especially in the Okavango Delta), a 12kg luggage limit in soft bags is imposed.

Luggage over the 12 kg will be left in lockers at the airport and will be for collection on your return. The 12kg limit does not include photographic equipment or hand luggage, which needs to be of a reasonable size.
