The island of Bazaruto, the archipelago’s namesake, is the largest at 37km long and 7km wide. It abounds with rich, tropical vegetation but also has areas of savannah grassland. The entire archipelago is alive with more than 160 species of birds, including the rare green coucal, olive bee-eater and purple-banded sunbird and is also a protected National Park.
