Aquila Private Game Reserve is situated in the magnificent Karoo Mountains, offering unparalleled scenic backdrops. Steeped in Khoi San and Boer War history, Aquila Private Game Reserve is a blend of dirty-boot adventure, wildlife education and luxury accommodation.

Set in 7500 hectares of the Southern Karoo, the countryside surrounding the Aquila Private Game Reserve is a kaleidoscope of breathtaking oranges, greens, browns and golds.  Set in a unique Mountain Fynbos landscape rich in rivers and dramatic gorges, this malaria-free game lodge offers honeymooners and families the ultimate African safari getaway.

Aquila Private Game Reserve is home to the Big 5 –elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino. Guests may encounter these magnificent animals roaming the area. Avid birdwatchers can enjoy the wide variety of bird species that can be spotted at Aquila Game Reserve including the flamingo and the endangered Black Eagle - after which the reserve is named after.

Rooms

Accommodation options at Aquila Safari Lodge include the Premier chalets, Luxury Family chalets, Standard chalets and Bush cottages.

The Premier chalets are privately situated on the slopes of the hills overlooking the reserve and are adorned with rich finishing touches – perfect for honeymooners or those wanting to rekindle romance.

Luxury Family chalets are semi-detached and feature exterior stone work. These chalets come with their very own back-to-nature outdoor shower – offering a truly African experience.

Standard chalets are a collection of semi-detached units featuring unique contemporary African designs. These chalets are snug and cosy.

Bush Cottages are a hideaway haven. Situated in the actual veld (bush) of the reserve, these cottages offer spectacular views of the wildlife roaming the area.

Dining

The spacious restaurant at the lodge offers a sumptuous buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner whipped up by local chefs. Enjoy your meal outside and catch a glimpse of the Big 5, whilst enjoying the majestic views of the mountains. Take in some star-gazing while indulging in African cuisine after enjoying sundowners at the cocktail bar.

Activites

Aquila Private Game Reserve has many activities that will warm the heart of nature enthusiasts such as quad-bike safaris, horse-back safaris, game drives and a complimentary educational introduction to the cheetahs of the region. Refresh yourself at one of the two swimming pools on a hot day. The lodge also boasts a children’s area, complete with a putt-putt course, quad bikes, pony rides, game consoles, a paddling pool, and arts and crafts.

Aquila Private Game Reserve is located in the historic Touwsrivier town, a valley sandwiched between the Langeberg and the Outeniqua Mountains in the Karoo. Situated a mere 90-minute drive from Cape Town, Aquila Game Reserve is on the scenic national garden route.
