General Information

The Amakhala Safari Lodge is secretly hidden up a hill in the indigenous Valley Bushveld at the northern boundary of the 7000-hectare Amakhala Game Reserve, offering guests exclusivity and privacy.  This 5-star lodge provides traditional understated accommodation, presenting guests with a unique African holiday.

Set in the private reserve, this intimate thatched-roof lodge offers a holistic safari experience where the Big 5 - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino - can be spotted roaming the African bush surrounding your luxurious room.

Unwind in one of the lodge’s various relaxation areas which are tastefully decorated with elements of African tribal designs and splashes of colour. View the Big 5 through the telescope in the lounge or enjoy the African skies at the stargazing facility.

Rooms

Accommodation is in unique air-conditioned safari huts, offering 11 luxurious African designed suites complete with large beds, private plunge pools and comfortable separate lounges. Soak away the heat in the spacious double bath filled with aromatherapy bubbles – a favourite for honeymooners - or splash off the dust in a double outdoor shower.

Dining

The resident chef will treat you to great cuisine presented with African flair in the open-fronted dining room, where you can enjoy both breakfast and lunch. The haunting sound of the kudu horn calls you for dinner around the fire where you’ll be able to enjoy South African wines and local cuisine under a magnificent canopy of stars.

Activities

The Safari Lodge offers morning and evening game drives with experienced rangers through Amakhala Game Reserve, bird watching and nature walks along Bushman’s River, a cheese and wine boat cruise and a sundowners’ canoe safari. There are also adventure programmes and facilities available which include quad biking and obstacle courses.

Amakhala Safari Lodge is situated in the Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape Province. Nestled between Shamwari Game Reserve and Addo Elephant National Park, Safari Lodge’s location is ideal for some of the best wildlife viewing South Africa has to offer.
