GENERAL INFORMATION

  • The River Club really offers the best of several worlds.
  • Magnificent views of the sunset and river.
  • A distinct Edwardian flavour
  • Rates starting from US$423 per person sharing per night
  • Located on the Zambezi River on the Zambian Side

Its main area is a well-appointed Edwardian-style house, with a comfortable lounge, large dining room, impressive library and wide veranda on which breakfasts and teas are taken. Manicured lawns (where midday meals are often served) spread out beneath the trees and a croquet court is an ideal venue for a Pimm’s-soaked croquet game.

The pool has been built to seem part of the river itself, a secluded deck with hammocks and loungers provide respite and beauty treatments are available in the calico ‘massage’ tent. Ten luxury chalets each have a split-level bedroom and en-suite bathroom, and one side completely open to the river, so that there is an uninterrupted vista of the shining Zambezi and glorious African sunsets from both bed and bathtub.

Activities include sundowner cruises, visits to the Falls, Simonga Village, local markets and Livingstone, and a variety of other activities at extra cost: white water rafting, bungee jumping, abseiling, and helicopter flights over the Falls. With the Zambezi National Park just across the river, hippo and elephant are regularly seen, birdlife is particularly rich and tiger fishing is a challenge for keen fishermen.

Although TRC is not a game lodge, elephants can often be seen in the Zambezi National Park opposite and hippos are regularly seen and heard. There is rich bird life in the area, including several rarer species such as the African Fin foot, the Half Collared Kingfisher, the African Skimmer and the Collared Palm Thrush.

For bird lovers there are nature trails around the lodge, boat cruises and island walks. Tiger fishing is an unforgettable challenge for keen fishermen, particularly during the warmer months. There are various varieties of Bream that are also a good catch. For the more sporting, try catching them on fly!

Game drives into the nearby Mosi Oa Tunya Game Park where there is an abundance of game but sadly no big cats. There is a good chance of spotting white rhino on these trips. Other game that can be seen are: elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeast and impala.
